Bret Laskarzewski, a senior psychology and English major at the University of Rochester, has been selected as the 1995-96 New York State Student Employee of the Year.
Laskarzewski was awarded a plaque and a $50 savings bond by the Northeastern Association of Student Employment Administrators. As a state selectee, his nomination will now be forwarded to the regional level.
Laskarzewski, a graduate of Plainville High School, is a resident of Williams Street in Plainville, Conn.
Prior to being named the New York State Student Employee of the Year, Laskarzewski was named Student Employee of the Year at the University of Rochester. This contest recognizes the important contributions student employees make to the University. This year, 23 students were nominated for the award by a committee comprising campus employers. Laskarzewski received a certificate of achievement and a $100 savings bond.
Laskarzewski, the Macintosh technical assistant for the consulting group in the University Computing Center, troubleshoots software problems and installs, configures, trains, and maintains the Center's software. He also provides fee-for-service work to the University departments. Laskarzewski has been employed by the Computing Center for four years, beginning as a desk consultant in the Computing Library and Resources Center.
Frances Versace, acting director of the University Computing Center, who nominated Laskarzewski for this honor, said, "Bret is thoughtful, pays a good deal of attention to detail, and is very responsible about his tasks. His disposition never falters--not bad for someone who is working 20 hours a week in a stressful environment, attending classes full-time, and working as a resident advisor."
