John DiSarro has been named to the newly created position of assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs in the Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Rochester. In this role, DiSarro will work closely with the University\'s recognized fraternities and sororities to develop programs that align themselves with the mission of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering and the standards of the Expectations for Excellence program.
DiSarro, a native of Bethlehem, Pa., joined Fraternity and Sorority Affairs in 2007 as a graduate assistant while he pursued a master\'s degree from the University\'s Warner School of Education. During his assistantship, he supported programming initiatives for 30 undergraduate organizations and coordinated student participation in annual conferences. In his new position, DiSarro will guide student leaders in event planning and membership recruitment and report to Monica Miranda Smalls, director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. He also will coordinate with the Rochester Center for Community Leadership to develop training programs that focus on community building, leadership, non-academic student conduct, and organizational management. In addition, DiSarro will chair the Fraternity and Sorority Recognition Committee and coordinate the annual award selection process.

DiSarro, who is a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity, earned his a masters of science degree in education leadership and higher education student affairs from Warner in 2009. He previously graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a minor in business studies. He resides in Rochester.
