WHAT: The University of Rochester\'s Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies (FDI) will host a conference titled \"Thinking Black Intellectuals,\" featuring some of today\'s most important scholars in Africana Studies.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: The conference takes place 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, and 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Hawkins-Carlson Room inside Rush Rhees Library on the River Campus.
Scholarly presentations and discussions will examine issues of diversity, identity, and community throughout the African Diaspora, through literature, philosophy, cultural studies, and history. Topics range from \"The Love of Freedom Brought Us Here: Introduction to Modern African Political Philosophy\" to \"Finding Voice, Giving Voice: Gender, Politics, and Social Change.\"
