WHAT: Presented by the University of Rochester's College Music Department, Day of Brass was created to get local high school students excited about playing brass music and interested in continuing with music after their graduation from high school.
The all-day event will include rehearsals, master classes/clinics given by Eastman and River Campus faculty and a final concert comprised of high school participants, UR undergraduates and faculty. There is also a special performance by the Excelsior Cornet Brass Band, New York State's Authentic Civil War Brass Band.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 9a.m. to 4:15p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Alumni and Advancement Center located at 300 East River Road, across Interstate 390 from the University of Rochester Medical Center. A full schedule of the day's events can be found on http://www.rochester.edu/College/MUR/news/. The event is free and open to the public.
The final concert from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. is free and open to the public. The first half of the concert will consist of the festival brass ensemble, comprised of high school students and undergraduate music students from the University. The Excelsior Cornet Band will take the stage to finish the concert with their brand of Civil War-era brass music.
PARKING: Free parking is available in the lots behind the Alumni and Advancement Center. Once you've parked behind the building, enter through Door A and follow the signs that lead upstairs to the auditorium.
