The University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra, with pianist Zora Mihailovich, will present a "Celebration of Spring Concert" at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the Sarah Flaum Atrium of the Arthur Kornberg Medical Research Building, on the corner of Lattimore Road and Elmwood Avenue, at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Mihailovich is artist in residence with the Department of Music at the College and will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor. The hour-long concert also includes Beethoven's Leonora Overture No. 1 and Mozart's Symphony No. 41, known as the "Jupiter Symphony."
Born in Belgrade, Mihailovich started her musical studies at age 5 and debuted with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra when she was 16. A year later, she became the youngest person ever to graduate from the Academy of Music in Belgrade. She completed her studies at the Academia di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Mihailovich has performed in recital and as an orchestral soloist in numerous venues, including London's Royal Festival Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and New York's Carnegie Hall, and with such orchestras as the Washington Symphony, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra.
The Chamber Orchestra is a 40-member student ensemble that presents concerts on the River Campus and in the Rochester community. The group also has toured and performed in Jamaica, Grand Cayman Island, Italy, and Montreal.
Performing music from the Baroque to the contemporary, the Chamber Orchestra showcases the versatility of the University's students. The ensemble is conducted by David Harman, professor of music and director of orchestral activities.
