WHO: More than 300 community members and University of Rochester students are expected to attend the second annual Community Barbecue, created to introduce undergraduates at Rochester to community members from the Plymouth-Exchange and 19th Ward neighborhoods of SouthWest Rochester.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 at Staybridge Suites (1000 Genesee Street).
WHAT: The Community Barbecue highlights the increasing collaboration between the University and the community that is transforming the Brooks Landing area. Building on the success of last year\'s pilot, the event provides an opportunity for students to explore the Brooks Landing area and become acquainted with the many restaurants and businesses located across the river.
During the event, students and community members will mix and mingle while enjoying food catered by Unkl Moe\'s Barbecue and Catering. Entertainment will be provided by community members in the SWAN Band and DJ Ron Johnson of Titan Sound.
Community organizers include: David Hawkes, City of Rochester SouthWest Neighborhood Service Center, Lynnada Consulting and Event Planning, NeighborWorks® Rochester, 19th Ward Community Association, Plymouth-Exchange Neighborhood Association, Sector 4 Community Development Corporation, SouthWest Sector 4 Common Council, Staybridge Suites, SWAN Band, Titan Sound, and Unkl Moe\'s Barbecue and Catering.
University of Rochester organizers include: the Office of the President, Office of College Enrollment, Office of Government and Community Relations, Office for Residential Life and Housing Services, Dean of Freshmen, Director of Orientation, Rochester Center for Community Leadership, Wilson Commons Student Activities Office, and student groups Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity and Grassroots Environmental Group.
