George Eastman Day, Wilson Day Introduce Students to Rochester Nonprofits
Margaret Mead once said to \"never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.\" With this in mind, more than 1,000 freshmen at the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music will venture into the city and suburbs to volunteer at nearly 60 of Rochester\'s nonprofit organizations during the 2nd annual George Eastman Day of Service and 23rd annual Wilson Day.
Eastman Day of Service takes place on Friday, Aug. 26, from noon to 5 p.m., while Wilson Day, a service experience for River Campus freshmen, is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Both days are part of the orientation programs for freshmen, and are geared toward creating connections among students while introducing them to Rochester and the many volunteer and exploration opportunities the city has to offer.
Eastman Day of Service Selected Locations for Media:
Rochester Association of Performing Arts (727 E. Main St.)
25 Eastman students will be cleaning and painting areas of RAPA\'s 20,000 sq.ft facility, while learning about the mission and work of the association.

RCSD School #19 (465 Seward St.)
20 volunteers will help prepare for the start of the school year by cleaning the outdoor school grounds and gardens, preparing bulletin boards, and assisting school custodians. This group will be joined by members of Partners in Reading, a student organization that works with children at School #19.
M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence (929 S. Plymouth Ave.)
20 volunteers will learn about sustainability in the urban environment while working on an urban agriculture/perma-culture project next door to the Gandhi Institute\'s new home in the Plymouth-Exchange neighborhood.
While some freshmen will get a glimpse of the many community service opportunities available in Rochester, others will participate in the Urban Explorers\' Wild Goose Scavenger Hunt, which sends students into the city to learn about Rochester\'s rich history.
