WHO: Undergraduates at the University of Rochester community will see their hair hit the floor during Colleges Against Cancer's annual Shave to Save benefit.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: Noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons, on the University's River Campus
WHAT: Through the Shave to Save benefit, participants solicit sponsorships in exchange for either shaving their heads or cutting off eight or more inches of hair, which is donated to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. For the fourth year, stylists from the Mane Attraction II will donate their time and skills, clipping, cutting, and styling each participant's hair. The funds raised through the sponsorships benefit the American Cancer Society and help support cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
ABOUT COLLEGES AGAINST CANCER: Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of students, faculty, and staff that promotes cancer education and awareness on college campuses. Rochester's chapter hosts a variety of events, including Think Pink Week, which educates the community about Breast Cancer, the Great American Smokeout, which advertises the negative health effects of smoking and offers assistance to individuals ready to quit, and Relay for Life, the groups largest event, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society.
