WHAT: The University of Rochester celebrates Asian Heritage Month with a performance by David Choi, a Korean-American singer and songwriter, whose tracks have been featured on international television shows and commercials.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 8 p.m. on Friday, April 6, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester\'s River Campus
BACKGROUND: A native of Los Angeles, Calif., David Choi is a self-produced singer and songwriter. In 2004, Choi mashed pop icon David Bowie\'s She\'ll Drive the Big Car with Shake It to create Big Shaken Car, the grand prize winner of the David Bowie Mash-Up Contest. Following that, he was the grand prize winner for USA Weekend Magazine\'s John Lennon Songwriting Contest for teens.
Choi wrote and self-produced all three of his albums, Only You, By My Side, and Forever and Ever, which debuted at #97 on the iTunes Top Album chart. His tracks can be heard in commercials for brands including Kelloggs, Starburst, American Cancer Society, GE, Google, Toyota, Samsung, and JC Penney on networks such as NBC, FOX, VH1, MTV, A&E, and the Travel Channel, among others. Choi also wrote State of Survival, which can be heard on Interscope group Flipsyde\'s album, This is Your Life.
TICKETS: Tickets are $5 for University of Rochester undergraduates (with I.D.), $8 for members of the University community, and $10 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the Common Market in Wilson Commons or at the door.
The event is sponsored by the Chinese Students Association, Korean American Students Association, and the Asian Heritage Month Committee.
