J. Nelson Hoffman '55, businessman and author of a book on virtues and values, and John J. Waters, historian and professor emeritus, will discuss their writing projects during programs at the University of Rochester's Rush Rhees Library on Saturday, Oct. 11. The talks are free and open to the public.
At 11 a.m., Hoffman will reveal his pitfalls and pleasures as the self-published author of Virtue and Values for the 21st Century: Renewing America's Character and Spirit in the Plutzik Library on the second floor of Rush Rhees Library on the University's River Campus. A 1955 graduate of the College, Hoffman is the former chairman of Brice Manufacturing Co., and now lives in Colorado. He is an honorary member of the Trustees' Alumni Council of the College.
John J. Waters, professor emeritus of history, will describe his research on aspects of the 19th-century roots of the University of Rochester. Waters' talk will focus on how the most innovative college curriculum in mid-century America began in Rochester. He will speak at 1 p.m. in the Plutzik Library. A specialist in the social history of colonial America, Waters has taught at the University since 1965.
