Seven undergraduates at the University of Rochester will display their artwork in upcoming senior thesis exhibitions in the Gallery at the Art and Music Library and at the AsIs gallery at Sage Art Center on the River Campus. The alternating shows will feature work in a variety of mediums and run from March 22 to May 13.
A collection of acrylic paintings by Rina Drescher will be on display from March 22 to 30 at the Gallery at the Art and Music Library on the ground level of Rush Rhees Library. Her show, titled "You Might Experience Some Side Effects," uses fossils and self-portraits as a way of talking about existence and the evidence of life.
Katherine Allan's collection of oil paintings, portraits, and self-portraits also will be on exhibit at the library gallery from April 2 to 10. Allan experiments with compositions using mirrors and will include approximately 10 pieces.
From April 13 to 21, Susie Hume will display her work in the library gallery. Her show features photographs using alternative printing processes. Hume's pieces address themes of trust, secrecy, image, and memory.
Later in April, the library gallery will host Irene Kang's show from April 24 to May 2. Her work with mixed media includes watercolors and wool knitting.
Michele Krugh's exhibit of photography and handmade books about everyday fleeting moments will be held at the library gallery. It will be showcased from May 5 to 9.
Two of the student exhibitions will be shown in the AsIs gallery at Sage Art Center, home to studio programs in the Department of Art and Art History. Keith Blaquiere will explore the theme of overwhelming torrential movement and confining spaces in his exhibit from April 19 to 28.
Works by Kim Stromgren will feature sound as a medium along with more traditional painting and drawing materials for her senior show. Her artwork is inspired by emotions through the use of sound from computer programs. It will be on display from May 1 to 9 at the AsIs.
The Gallery at the Art and Music Library is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
