The Campus Programming Board is bringing The Second City National Touring Company to the University of Rochester River Campus for a night of comedy on Friday, Feb. 4. The event, which begins at 8 p.m. in Strong Auditorium, features improvisational comedy skits resembling the acts seen on Saturday Night Live.
The legendary Second City Theater opened on Dec. 19, 1959, in Chicago and quickly earned "must-see" designation for its satirical skits. For the past 30 years, the Second City Touring Company has taken the Second City act on the road, performing at colleges, clubs, theaters, fundraisers, festivals, conventions, and more.
To celebrate its 40-year anniversary, Second City has embarked on the Second City's 40th Anniversary Tour. The tour features up-to-the minute satire plucked directly from the day's headlines, plus special segments highlighting the extraordinary history of Second City.
The Second City has been the starting point for many of the comedic actors, writers, and directors working today in American film, television, and theater. Famous alumni include John Belushi, John Candy, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Joan Rivers, George Wendt, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, and Mike Meyers.
Tickets can be purchased at local Media Play outlets or at the Common Market located in Wilson Commons on the River Campus
