The Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform is sponsoring the "Summer Scholars" Program for educators who need a jump-start with a project or want research help toward a goal.
Group sessions and independent study support each project with the resources and expertise of the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, and Rush Rhees Library at the University of Rochester. The program is facilitated by Rusti Berent, Warner School adjunct faculty member, and Kathleen McGowan, reference librarian at Rush Rhees Library.
Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday from July 21 to Aug. 1 in the library on the University's River Campus. The cost is $300.
For this intense, two-week period, preschool through high school educators will research and share with colleagues their individual projects for the benefit of their school districts, a problem-solving team, a school-based committee, and/or their own professional growth. Two topics researched last summer were how the adolescent mind learns and creative writing as a vehicle for collaborative teaching.
For applications, access the Warner School Web site (www.rochester.edu/warner) or contact Marty Garland at (585) 275-8270, or e-mail marty.garland@rochester.edu. The registration deadline is June 13.
The Warner School offers master's degree and doctoral degree programs in teaching, curriculum and change, counseling and human development, and educational leadership. The Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform works with local educational institutions to support the cause of education reform and to encourage the preparation and ongoing education of excellent educators.
