The Anthony Center for Women's Leadership is seeking nominations for the 2002 Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is given out annually to a University of Rochester woman who has demonstrated strong leadership qualities, personal as well as professional success, and has served as a role model for other women. Nominees should have a strong affiliation with the University as an alumna, trustee, faculty member, or administrator. Retired faculty members and administrators are also considered for the award.
University trustee Paula Brownlee '64 received the 2001 Anthony Award. Brownlee is the former president of Hollins College and first woman president of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Past awardees have also included Barbara Iglewski, chair and professor of microbiology and immunology; Elizabeth McAnarney, professor of pediatric and adolescent medicine; trustee Myra Gelband '71, senior editor of Sports Illustrated; and Ruth Lawrence '49M (MD), professor of pediatrics and neonatology.
Candidates should have achieved significant professional stature and influence, have a commendable, trailblazing body of work, and have used their achievements to help women continue to advance as leaders.
The award recipient will be honored at the Susan B. Anthony Legacy Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, where she will receive the award, symbolized by a silver and gold "Failure is Impossible" pin.
