Rochester Scholars '96, an academic program for high-school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, will be held July 8-19 at the University of Rochester.
The non-credit program offers bright, motivated high-school students opportunities for in-depth, "hands-on" exploration of the sciences, humanities, engineering, and social sciences.
Participants can attend half-days by selecting either a morning or afternoon course, or full days by selecting two courses. Classes will be held 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for two weeks. All courses are taught by University faculty and graduate students.
The cost per course is $295. Students need to arrange for daily transportation, as this is not a residential program. Dining services are available on campus, and a hospitality room will be open to students wishing to relax before or after class. There also will be opportunities to participate in campus events.
Course topics include language and advertising, optical holography, multiculturalism, sports and the American culture, what it takes to be a doctor, the Holocaust, the Internet, deaf culture, and more.
Registration must be completed by June 15. Interested students may contact Suzanne Schafer at 275-2341.
