February 7, 1995
Ten University of Rochester undergraduates will present their research projects at the 1995 National Conference on Undergraduate Research in April at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
Held annually since 1987, the conference is designed to promote undergraduate research by providing a national forum for students to present their work. Professor Jarold Ramsey, director of undergraduate research at Rochester, called the selection for the conference "an honor and an opportunity. The students will have a chance to present their work to a knowledgeable audience."
The conference will take place April 20-22. The ten participants from Rochester were accepted after their proposals were screened by the conference programming board.
Some 1,500 students and several hundred faculty members from universities all over the nation are expected to participate. The conference is broken up into a number of small sessions dealing with various topics.
"The topics range literally from A to Z," said Ramsey. "Particle physics, archeology, DNA research -- all are represented. Judging from their performance in past conferences, our students will make an impact on the conference."
The participants from the University are:
Kapil Agrawal, a senior chemical engineering major from New York City: "Effective Diffusivities in 3-D Multiphase Media." Jennifer Bentley, a senior women's studies/English major from Denver, Colo.: "Androgyny and the Performance of Gender in Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West." Jonathan Byrd, a senior biological science/neuroscience major from Swann Quarter, N.C.: "Superior Olivary Complex Inputs to the Dorsomedial Inferior Collicus of the CBA Mouse-Model of Presbycusis Remain Stable with Age."
