The seventh annual assessment conference for local educators will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 in Hubbell Auditorium in Hutchison Hall on the University of Rochester River Campus. Titled "Performance Assessment Directions: New York State's Future," the conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Giselle O. Martin-Kniep, Ph.D., will give the keynote address. Martin-Kniep is the director of educational consulting and program development at Learner-Centered Initiatives, Ltd. She also is a consultant to the New York State Education Department in assessment practices training and rubric development. Martin-Kniep is a national presenter and staff developer in the area of outcomes, standards, and authentic assessment. She will address how we measure student progress toward standards and the direction that standards and assessment are taking in New York State.
Martin-Kniep also will lead a workshop on the reliability of performance tasks. Other workshops will be led by area educators. Topics will include music performance standards, primary literacy, language arts portfolios, science performance assessments, and social studies Regents testing.
Sponsored by many area organizations, the conference is presented by the Office of Professional Development in the University's Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Admission is $30; $35 after September 25, and $25 for full-time students. Discounts are available for sponsoring groups.
