The 16th annual Pan-African Exposition, sponsored by the Black Students' Union, celebrates African culture with a wealth of activities on Saturday, Feb. 19, in Wilson Commons on the University of Rochester River Campus. This year's theme is "Footsteps to Change."
The Expo will feature a fashion show by an urban designer, Platinum by Hughes, a dating game, two step shows, and a presentation by Paul Burgett, Vice President and University Dean of Students, on a famous African-American in history.
Three workshops are scheduled for the day. In one, an alumni panel will reflect on their time at the University, talk about their careers, and offer advice to students on career choices. A second workshop will feature speaker Fredrick Harris, assistant professor of political science, whose courses include African-American topics. The final talk will be given by Planned Parenthood of Rochester and will focus on health-related issues.
There will also be a talent show featuring students and members of the Rochester community. Vendors from local businesses will be selling arts and crafts as well as cellular phones. Barbers and hair designers will also be providing hair services.
