Jordan B. Kleiman, a University of Rochester graduate student, has been awarded a Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for 1997, given by the Newcombe Foundation.
Kleiman, a native of Ithaca, N.Y., is pursuing graduate work through the History department. He is working on a doctoral dissertation, "A History of the Appropriate Technology Movement in the United States," under the supervision of Professor Robert Westbrook, chair of the department. Kleiman will receive a stipend of $14,000 for 12 months so he can devote full time to dissertation research and writing.
Newcombe Fellowships reflect the selection committees' confidence that recipients are embarking on significant future contributions to the study of ethical or religious values. The foundation received applications this year from 97 graduate schools in a wide variety of fields.
