Richard M. Williams, author and lecturer on the health and well-being of African-American families, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in room 2-162 of Dewey Hall on the University of Rochester's River Campus. His talk on the philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will mark the national holiday honoring King's birth.
Williams' lecture is sponsored by the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Following his remarks, Warner School graduate students will respond and then invite audience participation.
The author of They Stole It, But You Must Return It and Torches on the Road of Passage, Williams has been a guest on more than 70 radio and television programs. His views on the black family stress the need to value one another and put an end to self-defeating behavior that leads to cultural and economic hardship.
Williams earned a bachelor of science degree at the University of Rochester and a doctorate in health education and administration at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has traveled widely, conducting workshops and seminars on personal and group health issues as well as subjects relevant to American-American families.
Before and after the presentation, Mood Makers Books, a local multicultural bookstore, will display and sell items outside the lecture hall. For more information, contact (585) 275-3178.
