Ann Marie Mason, a senior majoring in political science and philosophy at the University of Rochester, has been named an All- American in the Cross Examination Debate Association, the nation's largest intercollegiate debating organization.
This marks the first time a University of Rochester student has placed among the top 20 debaters in the country. All-American selection is based on debating skill, grades, and contributions to debate at the college and regional level. Mason is vice president of the Rochester squad.
Mason achieved another first by being the first African- American woman from any school to be named a CEDA All-American. She plans to attend law school.
CEDA comprises some 300 American universities and colleges. The University of Rochester debate team ranked 22nd in the nation for the 1994-95 season and received the Eastern Regional Sweepstakes Award for exceptional performance.
