Dennis Klein of Kean University will compare how the Holocaust and other historical events such as the French Revolution and World War I have been examined and discussed in a talk titled "Revolution, War, Genocide: Competing Narratives" at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Welles-Brown Room in Rush Rhees Library on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
At Kean, Klein is professor of history and director of Jewish Studies. He is the author of several books, including Jewish Origins of the Psychoanalytic Movement and American Deeds-Jewish Dreams: A Study of the American Jewish Movement, 1916-1955. He has written numerous articles and essays for journals and books as well as for newspapers such as the New York Times and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
Klein is the founding editor of Dimension: A Journal of Holocaust Studies and the founding director of the Anti-Defamation League's Braun Center for Holocaust Studies. He has served as an advisor to the U. S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of Education
Klein, who received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Rochester in 1972 and 1978, respectively, is scheduled to talk at the opening of Monroe Community College's Holocaust and Human Rights Center at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24. His talk at the University is sponsored by the Department of History.
