Bruce A. Kimball, professor in the Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester, has been awarded a 1998-99 Senior Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies.
Kimball, who teaches in the Warner School's educational leadership program, will spend the academic year at Harvard Law School researching case method teaching, which was introduced at Harvard and is now used at most leading law schools and business schools. Kimball will be doing archival research into the origins of case method in the late-19th century and its adoption from legal education by medical and business education in the early-20th century.
At the Warner School, Kimball's field of specialization is the history of education and the professions. He earned his graduate degrees from the divinity school and education school of Harvard University.
ACLS Fellowships permit scholars to devote a full year to writing in the humanities. The council is a private federation of 60 national scholarly organizations with offices in New York City.
