TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Friel Lounge of the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls on the University of Rochester's River Campus. COST: Fees for the immunizations are $85 for bacterial meningococcal meningitis vaccine; $20 for influenza vaccine. The outreach program is open to University of Rochester students, faculty, staff, and others associated with the University. No appointments are necessary. Immunizations for meningococcal meningitis and influenza will be available from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Friel Lounge of the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls on the University of Rochester's River Campus. The outreach program is open to University of Rochester students, faculty, staff, and others in the University community. No appointments are necessary. The immunization program is sponsored by University Health Service with VACCESSHealth, a company that specializes in direct access immunization programs. The fees are $85 for the meningitis vaccine and $20 for the flu shot. Students can charge the cost to their tuition bill. Payment also can be made by credit card. UHS is offering this meningitis immunization outreach program because of an increase in the number of cases of meningitis on college campuses. The bacterial infection, which causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, is the second most common cause of bacterial meningitis in the United States, responsible for 3,000 to 4,000 cases each year.
