The Movement and Dance Program of the University of Rochester will present "Families Dancing" at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. This unique experience of an intergenerational performance by dancers and their families will take place in the Spurrier Dance Studio on the River Campus.

"Families Dancing" is a program of contemporary dance that brings together a series of works choreographed by different families. The parents-professional dancers and choreographers-collaborate with their children, ranging in age from one to 12 years old, to create the event.

Performers include a trio composed of University of Rochester dance faculty Agnes Benoit-Nader and her two children. Benoit-Nader also will join fellow faculty member Rain Sadkane and Felice Wolfzahn, a guest teacher at Bennington College, in presenting a sextet with mothers, babies, and strollers.

Other performers include Jim Coleman and Terese Freedman and their two children, and Dana Florin-Weiss and Peggy Florin, a dance professor at Bennington and Bard Colleges, who will present a daughter-mother duet. Coleman, Freedman, and Wolfzahn also teach in the Five College Dance Program, which pools the dance departments of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, as well as University of Massachusetts Amherst, to create one of the largest dance programs in the nation.

Tickets are $5 general admission and children under the age of 10 may attend for free. Because of the large number of visitors expected on campus for the University's Meliora Weekend events that day, parking will be off-site and shuttle buses will be provided.
