Everclear will perform at the University of Rochester at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Alexander Palestra in the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center on the River Campus. The event is sponsored by UR Concerts.

Ticket prices for students with University identification are $19 for floor seats and $16 for bleacher seats. General public admission is $25 for floor seats and $22 for bleacher seats. Tickets for the public will go on sale Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Record Archive, 1394 Mt. Hope Ave.; Lakeshore Record Exchange, 370 Park Ave.; Tickets.com on the Internet; and the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus.

On their fourth release for Capitol Records, Everclear reveals an expanded musical range and willingness to kick down new doors, while maintaining the sound that makes the band instantly recognizable. Along with incorporating instruments such as horns and strings, Art Alexakis-singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer-delves deeper into his psyche than before, working through the changes brought on by fractured relationships. "The album gives you ups and downs," says Alexakis about Songs From an American Movie, Vol. 1: Learning How to Smile. "It goes up and down, like life does."

Originally conceived as a solo album, Learning How to Smile evolved into a group effort when Alexakis brought in Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund to provide some extra punch to the songs he had already written. Everclear has already returned to the studio where they are recording Songs From an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude.
