The Hartnett Gallery, located in Wilson Commons on the University of Rochester River Campus, will be displaying a series of video installations by San Francisco-based artist Elizabeth Stephens from Thursday, Nov. 18, through Sunday, Dec. 12. Stephens will speak about her work at the opening reception, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Through her work entitled EXAMINATIONS, Stephens explores the strange ability of technologies to create, inspect, ignore or empower various positions of identity when virtual bodies are placed in sites that could be used by actual bodies. The artist is fascinated with the interactions between technologies, power, pleasure, and physicality. EXAMINATIONS integrates several elements of the artist's experience living in California filtered through multiple lenses of feminist theory, sexuality, absurdity, and material formalism.

The exhibition, reception, and speech are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Wilson Commons Information Desk at (585) 275-5911.
