Young people from kindergarten to high school will celebrate Polish culture with a musical performance at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the auditorium of the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Ave. The concert is sponsored by the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester.

Directed by Sabina Slepecki, a violinist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Youth Concert will feature approximately 20 students presenting a variety of musical pieces, several of which are of Polish heritage. Now in its seventh year, the concert has traditionally included a broad range of works from such composers as Bach, Chopin, Mendelsson, and Mozart, as well as pieces by rock musician Tori Amos. The event is held every May to commemorate Polish Constitution Day on May 3.

The concert is part of the Skalny Lecture and Artist Series presented by the center, which provides opportunities for students at the University of Rochester to study the languages, cultures, politics, and histories of Central European countries.

The performance and parking at the gallery are free. For more information, contact the center at (585) 275-9898.
