As of June 1, Vice President and University Dean for Students Paul Burgett will join the President's Office with new titles and a new portfolio-as vice president and general secretary, senior advisor to the president, and University dean.
As general secretary, Burgett will have key responsibilities for Board of Trustees relations. Burgett also will help to represent the President's Office among the alumni and within the local community. "These are two arenas in which Paul is very well known," President Thomas H. Jackson said. "Decades of alumni, from all academic divisions, know 'Dean Burgett,' and will be delighted to have any and all opportunities to visit with him again. He is also deeply involved in a variety of community matters and widely respected by our off-campus friends and colleagues."
Burgett has been vice president and chief student affairs officer since 1987, and is also adjunct professor of music in the College's music department. He had been dean of students at the University's Eastman School of Music from 1981 to 1987, and also has served as executive director of Hochstein Music School and on the music faculty of Nazareth College of Rochester. He holds his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in music education from the Eastman School. He is a former chair of the Board of Trustees of the Strong Museum and serves on the boards of the Urban League of Rochester and Genesee Country Museum. He is chairman of the National Advisory Board of the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College, Chicago.
