Actor Alec Baldwin will speak at 9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester River Campus. A passionate believer in liberal politics, Baldwin will engage the audience in a discussion of the problems facing the world today and possible solutions to these problems.
As an activist, Baldwin has embraced campaign finance reform, environmental public policy issues, gun control, and animal rights. He is a board member of People for the American Way, The Creative Coalition, and Standing for Truth About Radiation (STAR), as well as a member of New York University School of the Art's Dean's Council.
Baldwin's diverse acting career includes Broadway productions such as A Streetcar Named Desire and blockbuster movies such as The Hunt for Red October, as well as performances in regional theater, at literary festivals, and on Saturday Night Live.
Baldwin also heads the production company El Dorado Pictures, which won the 2000 Writers Guild Award for best adapted screenplay for its production of The Confession for Cinemax Television and also produced Nuremberg: Infamy on Trial for Turner Network Television.
Tickets for the Nov. 15 event, which is sponsored by the Outside Speakers Committee, can be purchased in advance at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus or at the door.
