The University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra, which is composed of experienced and talented musicians from throughout the community as well as University students, has scheduled auditions for its upcoming season.

Auditions will be held in lower Strong Auditorium on River Campus the weeks of Aug. 27 and Sept. 3 and will consist of three minutes of solo work of a prepared piece chosen by the candidate, plus sight reading from standard orchestral repertoire.

The scheduled times are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30; from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 31; and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Orchestra rehearsals are held Tuesdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The ensemble presents four free concerts each year under the baton of David Harman, professor of music and director of orchestral activities at the College.

The orchestra performs major works from the standard orchestral repertoire. Concerts feature guest soloists from the community as well as student winners of the symphony orchestra concerto competition.
