The University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra has scheduled auditions for its upcoming season. Membership in the symphony orchestra is open to experienced and qualified musicians from the greater Rochester area as well as to University students.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, Friday, Aug. 30, and Tuesday, Sept. 3, and may be scheduled by calling (585) 275-2828 during the third week of August. Each player should prepare a selection of two to three minutes that shows both technical proficiency and general musicality. There will also be sight reading from the standard orchestral repertoire.

Rehearsals are held Tuesdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in upper Strong Auditorium on the River Campus. The symphony orchestra presents four free concerts each year under the baton of David Harman, professor of music and director of orchestral activities at the College.

The 100-member ensemble performs major works from the standard orchestral repertoire and the programs this season will include major works by Mahler, Orff, and Mussorgsky. Concerts feature guest soloists from the community as well as student winners of the symphony orchestra concerto competition.
