The University of Rochester Wind Symphony's 60 students, led by conductor Cynthia Johnston-Turner, will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, in Strong Auditorium on the River Campus.
The concert, titled "The Sacred and Profane," will feature works pertaining to these elements in music and dance. "From Chaos to the Birth of a Dancing Star," by Alan Bell, deals with the evolution of chaos to order and then eventually to dance. "The Final Covenant," by Fisher Tull, expresses the deep religious emotions related to the promises made by God to mankind. "Symphony No. 1: In Memoriam of Dresden" is composer Dan Bukvich's response to the Allied Forces' bombing of Dresden in 1945. "Salvation is Created" is a beautiful chorale for the Russian Orthodox Church. The ensemble will conclude their performance with two marches: Hanson's "March Carillon" and Sousa's "Sempre Fidelis." Refreshments will be served following the concert.
