Master hat maker Dave Brown will present a discussion and demonstration of the process of hat making at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the Dance Studio of Spurrier Hall on the University of Rochester's River Campus.

Brown's presentation will outline a brief history of hatting and demonstrate the tools used in the process. He will share many anecdotes from his professional experience to illustrate the creative process.

Brown studied at Jaylord Hatters in New York City and opened his own store in Rochester after a five-year apprenticeship. He is considered one of the premier master hatters in the United States; his work can be seen in such movies as Road to Perdition, Catch Me if You Can, and Chicago, and on such celebrities as Shaquille O'Neal, Sting, and Garth Brooks.

Brown's presentation is the fourth in a series about the creative process sponsored by the University's Dance Program. Admission is free and open to the general public. For more information, call the Dance Program at (585) 273-5150.
