The achievements of women in the University of Rochester community will be celebrated during the 2004 Susan B. Anthony Legacy Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 5.

The event, which is sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Center for Women's Leadership and the University of Rochester Women's Club, pays tribute to Anthony's campaign to win women admission to the University and honors the activities of student leaders, faculty, staff, and alumnae.

The dinner is open to the public and starts at 6 p.m. in the May Room of Wilson Commons on the River Campus. The program includes presentation of the Center's Lifetime Achievement Award and scholarships from the Women's Club.

Jean Barr, professor of piano accompanying and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Considered a pioneer in her field, Barr was the first keyboard artist in the United States to be awarded a doctoral degree in accompanying. She is the founding director of the graduate programs in piano accompanying and chamber music at Eastman, has performed with many distinguished artists, and is in demand as a guest lecturer and master teacher in the United States and abroad.

Several women students also will be honored for their accomplishments and contributions to University life. Three students will receive awards sponsored by the University of Rochester Women's Club. Juniors Rachael Gabriel and Marilyn Lopez are the recipients of the Susan B. Anthony Scholarship, and senior Andrea Ferrara will be honored with the Susan B. Anthony Prize.

Also, senior Sheila Vakharia will be presented the Fanny R. Bigelow Prize and Take Five student Carmen Lewis will receive the Jane R. Plitt Award.
