A concert featuring a student's composition will be presented by the University of Rochester's Wind Symphony at 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus.

Titled "Four Classics and a World Premiere," the program will feature a work commissioned for the ensemble by its director, Cindi Johnston-Turner. The piece, "Soft," by Kyle Blaha, a senior in the University's Eastman School of Music, explores the different timbres and combinations of tonal color created by wind instruments.

The Wind Ensemble also will perform "First Suite in F" by Gustav Holst; "Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; Fucik's "Florentiner March;" and Percy Grainger's "Children's March," with guest pianist Caleb Harris, a graduate student at the Eastman School.

The University of Rochester Wind Symphony is comprised of students who are serious and accomplished musicians, but whose major course of study may vary from music to medicine, business, engineering, or linguistics. In addition to regular on-campus performances, the University Wind Symphony undertakes an annual performing tour each year.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the music department at (585) 275-2828.
