The Genesee Valley Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development will give a special award for lifetime service in education to Edwardine Weaver, director of the Warner School's Office of Professional Development at the University of Rochester.

At the group's annual dinner tonight, the award will be presented and will be renamed the Sister Edwardine Weaver Service Award in honor of Weaver, a former superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Rochester and a member of the Rochester Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.

"In her 11-year tenure at the Warner School, Edwardine Weaver has been a tireless advocate for the professional development of teachers, administrators and counselors, and a real presence in the Rochester community," said Raffaella Borasi, dean of the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development. "Through her skillful leadership and collaboration, Warner has greatly expanded its professional development program, which today supports more than 1,500 area educators each year seeking to improve teaching and learning in our community's schools. The Warner School congratulates Sister on this prestigious award."

Among her contributions, Weaver developed the Warner School's Catholic School Administrators Program, the only such program offered outside a Catholic university. Courses toward a master's degree are designed for educators interested in Catholic or private school administration. Since its beginning in 1988, the program has involved almost half of all administrators currently in the Rochester diocese's schools.
