"The Campus That Wasn't: Planning the University," an exhibit of proposals for the River Campus

"The Campus That Wasn't: Planning the University" is an exhibition of more than 20 architectural renderings from the 1920s, proposed for the development of the River Campus of the University of Rochester. These renderings, culled from the Department of Rare Books and Specials Collections in Rush Rhees Library, represent some of the 46 unrealized plans for the University and will be on display in the Hartnett Gallery in Wilson Commons on the River Campus. While many have origins early in the campus' planning, some come from later proposals, such as a plan for the women's campus and a version of Susan B. Anthony Hall that never came to fruition.

"The Campus That Wasn't" will be on display Monday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Nov. 17. An opening lecture is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, in the May Room of Wilson Commons. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, Jean France, adjunct associate professor of art history, will discuss the historical framework of the River Campus plan at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Hartnett Gallery.
