A panel discussion on current events in Sudan with speakers talking about personal experiences in the country will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Friel Lounge of Susan B. Anthony Halls on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
Sudan has been in a state of conflict since 1955. The current fighting has embroiled the blacks of southern Sudan and the Arab-dominated government of the north. The speakers will focus on their experiences growing up as refugees, their personal journeys to America, and the situation in the Darfur region.
The United Nations has estimated that about 2 million people have been affected in the latest wave of fighting. Earlier this month, Sudanese natives shared their stories on the humanitarian tragedy at various weekend religious services.
