A concert featuring the University of Rochester’s Wind Symphony with guest performers the Cornell Wind Ensemble will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
The Wind Symphony, conducted by Bill Tiberio, will perform “Scenes from the Louvre” by Norman Dello Joio; “Mercurial” by Todd Coleman; “Yiddish Dances” by Adam Gorb; and Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore.”
The Cornell University Wind Ensemble’s program includes “Country Band March” by Charles Ives; “Heroes Lost and Fallen” by David Gillingham; Shostakovich’s “Prelude;” and “Timepiece” by Cindy McTee. The group is directed by Cynthia Johnston Turner, assistant professor of music at Cornell.
The University of Rochester Wind Symphony is comprised of students who are serious and accomplished musicians, but whose major course of study ranges from music to medicine, business, engineering, or linguistics. In addition to regular on-campus performances, the University Wind Symphony undertakes an annual performing tour each year.
