The University of Rochester Jazz Ensemble will perform at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, in Strong Auditorium on the University’s River Campus.

The jazz ensemble program will be in two distinct parts, separated by a brief intermission. The first part will feature music pieces transcribed by the students from famous jazz recordings, including “So What” by Miles Davis and “Along Came Betty” by Benny Golson. These songs will be performed by small groups within the ensemble.

The second part of the concert will feature the whole ensemble performing pieces by Oliver Nelson, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Leo Delibes, and Charles Mingus.

Directed by Eric Schmitz, the University of Rochester Jazz Ensemble is comprised of 19 student members representing a wide variety of majors.
