The Viennese Ball is one of the University of Rochester's most popular social events and traditions. For one night, Wilson Commons-the student union on the River Campus-is transformed into "old Vienna," with dancing on three floors to the accompaniment of music from the University Chamber Orchestra. Students, faculty, and community members join to celebrate this black-tie event.

The ball is being held at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Couples will dance to waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss and other favorites. In between dance sets, the University Choir will perform selections by Johannes Brahms. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening. Guests come in evening dress, although some prefer to enhance the "spirit of old Vienna" by coming in period costumes.

The Viennese Ball is open to the public. Tickets are $13 in advance, available at the Common Market in Wilson Commons. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $15. For more information, contact Thomas Vaniotis at (585) 274-0511.

Proceeds from the Viennese Ball benefit the event's sponsors, the University Choir and the University Chamber Orchestra.
