University of Rochester graduate programs in business, economics, political science, music, and nursing have been named among the nation's leading programs in the March 18, 1996 issue of U.S. News & World Report, entitled "America's Best Graduate Schools." The issue goes on newsstands March 11.
The University's William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration was ranked 23rd among the nation's business schools, moving up one place from 24th last year. Scores were based on student selectivity, placement success, and reputation. The Simon School has been listed among the top 25 by U.S. News since the publication began its survey in 1990.
The "Best Graduate Schools" issue also mentions four other Rochester programs, which were ranked in 1995 and are being republished in this year's guidebook. The master's degree program at the University's Eastman School of Music is listed first in the country in a three-way tie, along with Indiana University at Bloomington and the Juilliard School. The doctoral program in political science is ranked ninth, and the doctoral program in economics is ranked 15th in the nation. The School of Nursing's master's degree program is ranked 14th in the country. The magazine used a reputational survey to determine the rankings, taking into account a school's reputation for scholarship, curriculum, and the quality of faculty and graduating students.
