The Center for Electronic Imaging Systems (CEIS) is one of 15 New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR) sponsored Centers for Advanced Technology. CEIS is devoted to promoting electronic imaging's economic development in the greater Rochester region and New York State and is holding an annual board meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at The Lodge at Woodcliff, 199 Woodcliff Dr., Fairport.

At the meeting, awards and recognitions will be given to companies and institutions in order to advance the creation and enhancement of the high technology innovations to stimulate Rochester and New York's economy. In addition to the awards presentation, the meeting will present remarks by John Spoonhower, Eastman Kodak Industrial Advisory Board Chair and adjunct associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Rochester. Other informational presentations at the meeting will include CEIS Director Eby Friedman's general updates on the current activities and status of the Center, and CEIS Associate Director Carl Schauffele's descriptions of research projects.

Economic impact awards this year will be presented to Xerox Corporation and VirtualScopics LLC "for outstanding economic success transferring technology from a university." CEIS selects and honors corporations for their success in working with universities to transfer technologies to commercially viable applications.

The Technology Transfer Incentive Program (TTIP) Award will be given by NYSTAR to the University of Rochester. The award is a grant of $200,000. This year, more than $5.22 million will be awarded to eight universities in New York State including the University of Rochester. The University will use these funds to work with ITT Industries Space Systems LLC in the development of a modular advanced space-borne camera system.

TTIP promotes academic research institutions to create and develop high-tech innovations which can be transferred to the marketplace to expand jobs and markets in high-tech industries and to spur the New York State economy.
