The Black Students' Union at the University of Rochester will hold a panel discussion titled "Reflecting on the Past, Defining our Future... Black Leadership in the 21st Century" at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, on the River Level of the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will focus on black leadership and its future role.
The panel discussion is the main event in celebration of Black Solidarity Day.
Moderator of the panel discussion is Fredrick Harris, associate professor of political science, director of the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies, and director of Center for the Study of African-American Politics. Panelists, who are all members of the University of Rochester community, include Anthea Butler, assistant professor of religion; Niambi Carter, predoctoral fellow at the University's Center for the Study of African-American Politics; senior Laura Porterfield, former president of the Black Students' Union; senior Anthony Plonczynski, president of Minority Student Advisory Board; and sophomore Porschea Lewis, educational and political committee member of the Black Students' Union.
