Zora Mihailovich, an internationally acclaimed concert pianist and artist-in-residence in the University of Rochester's music department in the College, will perform Brahms's Piano Concert No. 2 with the University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in Strong Auditorium on the University's River Campus. The 45-minute work, which Brahms wrote over a three-year period, is considered a monumental piece of music for its range of emotional variety as well as its technical complexity and challenges for the soloist.

Born in Belgrade, Mihailovich began her music studies at age five and became the youngest person ever to graduate from the Academy of Music in Belgrade. She completed her studies at the Academia di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome and has performed in recital and as an orchestral soloist in numerous venues, including London's Royal Festival Hall, and with such orchestras as the Washington Symphony, the Belgrade Philharmonic, and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. Mihailovich has made numerous recordings on the Centaur, Yugoton, Virtuoso and Virtuoso Classic labels. Among her recent recordings are Rachmaninov's second sonata and second piano concerto; Mozart's Piano Concertos K. 282, K. 331, and K. 333; and Chopin's second and third piano sonatas.

The University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra, directed by Professor of Music David Harman, also will play Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. The orchestra is a combined undergraduate and graduate student and community member ensemble that presents four concerts every year that are free and open to the public.
