The first “Wilson Commons Wednesday” celebration for 2006-2007 will feature a Caribfest theme and will be held on Sept. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“Wilson Commons Wednesdays” is a monthly themed event held in the Hirst Lounge of Wilson Commons for students, faculty, and staff. Included is a freshly prepared lunch that can be purchased on site for $8 cash, flex, declining or one club meal plus $1.49. On the menu for the Caribbean-themed meal—which is co-sponsored by the Black Students' Union—is jerk chicken, grilled shrimp and mango salsa, Caribbean-style vegetable stew, pigeon peas and rice, cherry tomato and grilled corn salad, and Jamaican rummed bananas.

The celebration will also feature live music by Latin band Tumbao and steel drum player Al St. John, face painting, dance demonstrations, free fudge and smoothie samples, and giveaways from local Rochester businesses.

"Wilson Commons Wednesdays" is sponsored by Wilson Commons Student Activities and Dining Services as a joint effort to engage the entire University community—faculty and staff as well as students—in enjoying an original and festive atmosphere in Wilson Commons on the River Campus. Themes for the rest of the year are "Mediterranean Flavors" on Oct. 11, a "Thanksgiving Harvest" on Nov. 8, an Italian-themed "Roma in Dicembre" on Dec. 13, "Superbowl Wednesday" on Jan. 24, "Feel Fabulous in February" on Feb.13, "Tastes of India" on March 21, and "Blues and BBQ" on April 11.
