The deadline for Rochester-area writers to submit full-length published works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, young people's literature, and playwriting has been extended until Dec. 15 for the second annual Andrew Eiseman Writers Award.

All books and plays must be published during the 2005 calendar year; in the case of playwriting, the work must have been presented by a professional group during that same period, but may have been published earlier.

Eligible writers must live within a 50-mile radius of Rochester. The books cannot be self-published or e-books. A $1,000 prize will be awarded in each category where the judges have selected a winner.

The prize is supported by the River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester and alumnus Andrew Eiseman. It was created to foster bonds between the Rochester literary community and the University of Rochester, and to raise awareness of the University and its libraries as community resources.

Submissions should be sent to: Andrea Weinstein, Room 236, Rush Rhees Library, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY 14627. Submissions accompanied by return postage will be sent to the authors after the judging is complete. Queries can be directed to aweinstein@library.rochester.edu or (585) 273-1341.
