The Hildegard Players, a group of University of Rochester students and members of the greater Rochester community, will don monk-like costumes to perform works by the 12th century theologian, composer, and author Hildegard.
A nun who founded convents and corresponded with popes and statesmen, Hildegard composed music— soaring songs in plainchant tradition of a single vocal melodic line— and musical plays. She also detailed her visions and wrote works on science, natural history, and medicine.
The theatrical program will include narration, dance, and an exorcism as well as music. "The Story of Hildegard" is written and produced by Honey Meconi, professor of music and coordinator of The Hildegard Project, a long-term undertaking to perform all of the composer's music.
