Eric Reeves, professor of English language and literature at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., will give a talk titled "A Long Day's Dying: Genocide by Attrition in Darfur."
Reeves has been a Sudan researcher and analyst for the past eight years and published both in the United States and internationally. He has testified on Sudan at several Congressional hearings and serves as a consultant to numerous human rights and humanitarian organizations. His book, A Long Day's Dying: Critical Moments in the Darfur Genocide, is expected to be released this spring.
This talk is part of the Beaven Lecture Series, named for Robert H. Beaven, who served as University chaplain from 1954 to 1969. Beaven was described as a "leading voice in focusing campus attention on social issues." The lecture is co-sponsored by Hillel, Catholic Newman Community, Interfaith Chapel, Sigma Chi Fraternity, St. Sebastian Society, campus chapter of Amnesty International, Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and Protestant Chapel Community.
